Columbia is a lively neighborhood located in downtown San Diego, California. It's a busy area mostly filled with businesses, but it's also growing with many tall apartment buildings being built.

This neighborhood is special because it's home to two amazing museums: the USS Midway Museum, which is on an old aircraft carrier, and the Maritime Museum of San Diego, where you can explore historic ships.

Where is Columbia?

Columbia is found right in the heart of San Diego. It's located just south of a fun area called Little Italy and north of the Marina district. To its east is the Core neighborhood, and to its west, you'll find the beautiful Pacific Ocean.

This district has clear borders: Ash Street is to the north, F Street to the south, Union Street to the east, and the Pacific Ocean forms its western edge.

Getting around Columbia is easy! The Santa Fe Depot, a major transportation hub, is located here. You can catch the Trolley, the COASTER train, or the Pacific Surfliner from this station, connecting you to many places.

New Buildings and Exciting Changes

Columbia is a neighborhood that's always changing and growing! Many parts of it are being redeveloped, which means new buildings and improvements are being added.

Some of these big projects include the North Embarcadero Visionary Plan, which is making the waterfront even nicer. There's also the Navy Broadway Complex and plans to expand the Embarcadero Circle cruise ship terminal.

As of 2007, many tall buildings were being built or planned. These included new apartment buildings, office spaces, and even a Federal court house. Some of these buildings were planned to be very tall, with more than 20, 30, or even 40 floors! This shows how much Columbia is developing and becoming a modern part of San Diego.
