Colusa is a city in California, located in the Sacramento Valley. It is the main city and county seat of Colusa County, California. In 2020, about 6,411 people lived there.
The name "Colusa" comes from the local Coru Native American tribe. They lived near the Sacramento River in the 1840s.

History of Colusa
Colusa was founded in 1850 by Charles D. Semple. He bought the land, which was part of a Mexican land grant. At first, he called the area Salmon Bend. The town was first named "Colusi."
The first post office opened in 1851. In 1854, the California government changed the town's name to "Colusa." The town grew quickly because it was on the Southern Pacific Railroad line. This made it an important stop for travelers.
Geography of Colusa
Colusa is located on the Sacramento River. The city has an area of about 3.42 square miles (8.87 square kilometers), and it's all land. The river has a high wall, called a levee, so you can't easily see it from the city.
Colusa has some interesting old buildings. These include a historic Chinatown area, a Carnegie Library building from 1905, and a beautiful courthouse. The courthouse is built in a classic style.

Major Flooding Events
In December 1996 and January 1997, the Colusa area experienced a big flood. This event caused a lot of damage. Thousands of acres of crops, like rice and tomatoes, were destroyed. Many properties were also damaged.
Colusa in Movies
The movie ...tick...tick...tick... (1970) was filmed in downtown Colusa. The historic courthouse was featured in the film. The movie is about an African-American person who becomes sheriff in a town.

Colusa's Economy
The main industry in Colusa County is farming. Farmers mostly grow rice and tree nuts, like almonds and walnuts. Colusa County is one of the top places in the United States for growing rice. In 2016, over 135,000 acres of rice were harvested.
Some of the biggest employers in Colusa are Colusa County itself and the Colusa Unified School District. Also, Sunsweet Growers has a large plant just outside the city.

The schools in Colusa are part of the Colusa Unified School District. There are three main schools:

- Colusa High School
The mascot for Colusa High School is the Redhawks. This name was chosen in 2011. Before that, the mascot was different, but it was changed to be more respectful to Native Americans.
