Con-G was a fun event for fans of many different things. It was a non-profit convention run by volunteers. The event took place every February in Guelph, Ontario, Canada.

Con-G started in 2009 and ran until 2014. It began as a Japanese anime convention. Over time, it grew to include many other parts of geek culture. This included things like Steampunk, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Gaming. The name "Con-G" comes from "Convention Guelph." It's also a clever play on words with "kanji," a Japanese writing system.

In 2021, Con-G made a comeback! It returned as a virtual online convention called Con-G - Geeks@Home. This happened because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

A Look Back at Con-G

Con-G grew quite a bit during its first run. It started small but became very popular.

Con-G's Early Years

The first Con-G happened on February 21–22, 2009. It was held at the Ramada Conference Centre Guelph. About 350 people attended this first event.

In 2010, the convention moved to the Best Western Royal Brock Hotel. Attendance grew to 530 people. The event continued to attract more fans each year.

Growing Bigger and Better

By 2011, Con-G moved to the Holiday Inn Guelph. About 700 people came that year. The convention kept growing in size and popularity.

In 2012, over 1,000 people attended Con-G. The exact number was 1,015 attendees. This showed how much the event was loved by the community.

The Final Years (for a while!)

In 2013, Con-G moved to the Delta Guelph Hotel and Conference Center. This larger venue helped welcome even more fans. Attendance reached 1,400 people that year.

The last in-person Con-G was held in 2014. It was also at the Delta Guelph Hotel. A record 1,600 people attended this event.

Con-G Goes Virtual

After 2014, Con-G took a break. But it returned in 2021 as an online event. This virtual convention was called Con-G - Geeks@Home. It allowed fans to connect safely from their homes.

Meet Kon: The Mascot

Con-G had a cool mascot named Kon. Kon was a cartoon Japanese dragon. He was green with a white belly. He also had a purple mane.

Kon was often shown holding a calligraphy brush. This showed his connection to Japanese art. An artist named Lindsay Pattillo created Kon especially for Con-G.
