Conchalí is a busy area, or commune, in Chile. It's part of the Santiago Metropolitan Region and is located in the Santiago Province. You can find Conchalí in the northwest part of Santiago, a large city.

Conchalí's Population and Area

Conchalí covers an area of about 70.7 square kilometers (27.3 square miles). In 2002, a special count of people, called a census, showed that 133,256 people lived there. This number included 64,973 men and 68,283 women.

Conchalí is a completely urban area, which means everyone lives in the city part. Between 1992 and 2002, the number of people living in Conchalí went down by about 12.9%.

How Conchalí is Governed

As a commune, Conchalí is like a local government area. It is run by a municipal council. The council is led by an alcalde, which is like a mayor. The alcalde is chosen by the people in an election every four years.

The current alcalde of Conchalí is Carlos Sottolichio Urquiza. He belongs to the PPD. He has been alcalde before, from 1992 to 2000 and from 2003 to 2008.

Conchalí's Representatives in Government

  • Chamber of Deputies: This is like one part of the country's parliament. Conchalí is part of an area that sends two people to the Chamber of Deputies. Currently, these are Karla Rubilar (RN) and Daniel Farcas Guendelman (PPD). They also represent the nearby areas of Renca and Huechuraba.
  • Senate: This is the other part of the country's parliament. Conchalí is part of a larger area called the 7th senatorial constituency (Santiago-West). This area sends two people to the Senate. Currently, these are Guido Girardi Lavín (PPD) and Andrés Allamand Zavala (RN).
