History of Concord
Concord started as a trading post in 1827. A trading post was a place where people could buy and sell goods. It was set up on Whiteoak Creek. This made Concord an important stop for stagecoaches traveling between Atlanta and Columbus. Stagecoaches were like old-fashioned buses pulled by horses.
The town was also a key place for cotton farmers. They would bring their cotton here to trade. Concord first became an official town in 1832. However, many people left during the American Civil War.
Later, in 1887, the Georgia General Assembly made Concord an official town again. The community got its name from the Concord Primitive Baptist Church. This church had been in the area since the early 1840s.
