Pike County is a county in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is located in the west-central part of the state. As of the 2020 census, about 18,889 people lived there. The main town, or county seat, is Zebulon.

History

Pike County was created in 1822. It was formed from a part of Monroe County. The county was named after Zebulon Montgomery Pike. He was a famous American explorer and an army officer.

Geography

Pike County covers a total area of about 219 square miles (567 square kilometers). Most of this area, 216 square miles (559 square kilometers), is land. The remaining 3.3 square miles (8.5 square kilometers) is water.

The county is located in the Piedmont region of Georgia. This area has rolling hills and is between the mountains and the coastal plain. All of Pike County is part of the Upper Flint River area.

Education

The Pike County School District is in charge of public schools in Pike County. The district has several schools for different age groups. There is a Pre-K building, a primary school (grades K-2), and an elementary school (grades 3-5). There is also a middle school (grades 6-8), a ninth-grade academy, and a high school (grades 10-12). Michael Duncan is the Superintendent of Schools.

Georgia Military College also has a campus near Zebulon City Hall.
