Conrad Stafford Bain (February 4, 1923 – January 14, 2013) was a Canadian-American actor. He was best known for his role as Phillip Drummond in the sitcom Diff'rent Strokes and as Dr. Arthur Harmon in Maude. Bain had a twin brother, Bonar Bain.
Early life
Bain was born on February 4, 1923 in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada to Jean Agnes Young and to Stafford Harrison Bain. Bain was educated at Banff School of Fine Arts in Calgary, Alberta and at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. He became a United States citizen in 1946, before graduating in 1948. He served in the Canadian Army during World War II.
Career
His career started in 1956 in an episode of Studio One as Evans. He later appeared in over 200 television programs. He was mostly known for playing Phillip Drummond in Diff'rent Strokes with Gary Coleman. Bain retired in 1996.
Personal life
Bain lived in an apartment in Livermore, California. Bain was married Monica Sloan on September 8, 1945 until her death on February 26, 2009. They had three children together, Jennifer, Kent, and Mark Bain. In February 18, 2005, his brother Bonar died from cancer, aged 82.
Death
Bain died on January 14, 2013 in his home in Livermore, California from complications following a stroke, aged 89. Co-star Todd Bridges said the Bain was like a father figure to him. Bain was soon cremated.
