Constantine Mitsotakis (born October 18, 1918 – died May 29, 2017) was an important Greek politician. He served as the Prime Minister of Greece from April 11, 1990, to October 13, 1993. He came from a family deeply involved in politics.

Early Life and Family

Constantine Mitsotakis was born in Chania, a city on the island of Crete, Greece. His family had a long history in politics. Both his father and grandfathers were members of the Greek parliament. A famous Greek leader, Eleftherios Venizelos, was his uncle.

He studied law and economics at the University of Athens. This education helped him prepare for his future career in public service.

In 1953, he married Marika Mitsotakis. They were married until her death in 2012. Together, they had four children.

A Long Political Career

Mitsotakis began his political journey many years before becoming Prime Minister. He was first elected to Parliament in 1946. Over his long career, he held several important government jobs.

He served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs twice. He was also the Minister of Coordination, which involved managing the country's economy. Later, he became the Minister of the Aegean, focusing on issues related to Greece's islands.

Becoming Prime Minister

After many years in different government roles, Constantine Mitsotakis became the Prime Minister of Greece in 1990. He led the country for over three years. During his time as Prime Minister, he worked on various challenges facing Greece.

His Later Years

In January 2004, Mitsotakis decided to retire from Parliament. This was 56 years after he was first elected. He had dedicated most of his adult life to serving his country.

Death

Constantine Mitsotakis passed away on May 29, 2017, in Athens, Greece. He was 98 years old. He is remembered as a significant figure in modern Greek history.
