Conway is a small city in Laclede County, Missouri, United States. It is located about 15 kilometers (9 miles) southwest of Lebanon. In 2010, about 788 people lived in Conway. By 2020, the population was 729.

History of Conway

Conway was officially planned out in 1869. The city was named after a local business owner. A post office has been open in Conway since 1871.

Conway is located in the state of Missouri. The city covers a total area of about 4.74 square kilometers (1.83 square miles). Most of this area is land. Only a very small part, about 0.03 square kilometers (0.01 square miles), is water.

Culture and Community Life

Annual Town Festival: Conway Community Days

Every year, the people of Conway hold a special community festival. It is called "Conway Community Days." This festival happens in September, the weekend after Labor Day.

The festival starts on a Friday evening. It continues until early Sunday morning. You can find food vendors and enjoy dancing and singing. There are also fun amusement rides. Local youth groups, churches, and adult organizations take part in a parade.

Sports: Go Bears!

Conway is proud of its sports teams, known as the Conway "Bears." In the 2006-2007 basketball season, the Conway Bears had an amazing record of 26 wins and 3 losses. They were champions of the Summit Conference. They also won their Class 3 District 13 and Sectional championships. They almost made it to the state final four!

The 2006-2007 basketball Bears also won the Conway Invitational Tournament. They won the Skyline Invitational as well. This was the best basketball record in the school's history.

In 2008, the Conway baseball Bears finished third in the state tournament. This was a first for the school's baseball team. Also in 2008, Dallis Bailey from Conway won the 800-meter state championship in track as a freshman. A girls' relay team also earned all-state honors.

Scouting in Conway

Conway has a long history of Scouting for young people. Cub Scout Pack 44, Boy Scout Troop 44, and BSA Venture Crew 44 are all active in the community. These groups are part of the Ozark Trails Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Girls in Conway also participate in Girl Scouting. They are part of the Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland.

Youth Education in Conway

Conway is home to all the schools in the Laclede County R-1 school district. This school district was formed by combining different school districts. This happened in the middle of the 20th century. One of the biggest changes was joining with the Phillipsburg School District.
