Conway Holmes Hayman (born January 9, 1949 – died March 7, 2020) was an American football player and coach. He was known for playing as a guard, a strong position on the offensive line, in college and professionally. Later, he became a head football coach for college teams.

Playing Football
College Days at Delaware
Conway Hayman was a talented lineman at the University of Delaware in Newark. He played there from 1968 to 1970. During his time, his team, the Blue Hens, won three straight Lambert Cup titles. They also won three Boardwalk Bowl games and two Middle Atlantic Conference championships.
In 1970, Hayman was chosen as a first-team All-American. This means he was considered one of the best offensive guards in college football. He was also picked twice for the All-MAC team. Because of his great achievements at Delaware, Conway Hayman was honored by being inducted into the state of Delaware Sports Hall of Fame. He was also only the second player from his school to play in the NFL.
Playing in the NFL
After college, Conway Hayman was drafted into the NFL in 1971. He was picked in the sixth round by the Washington Redskins. Soon after, he was traded to the Houston Oilers.
Hayman played for the Houston Oilers for six seasons. During his time with the team, he played in a total of 77 regular season games. This shows he was a consistent and important player for the Oilers.
Coaching Teams
Head Coach at Prairie View A&M
After his playing career, Conway Hayman became a football coach. He was the head football coach at Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas. He led the team for four seasons, from 1983 to 1986.
Helping Other Teams
Besides being a head coach, Hayman also worked as an assistant coach. He helped out at Texas Southern University and Florida A&M University. As an assistant, he helped players improve their skills and worked on team strategies.
Special Achievements
In 1986, Conway Hayman was honored again for his contributions to sports. He was inducted into the Delaware Sports Museum and Hall of Fame. This recognition celebrates his outstanding career as both a player and a coach.
