Prairie View is a city in Waller County, Texas, in the United States. It is located on the edge of the larger Houston metropolitan area. In 2020, about 8,184 people lived there.
The city is home to Prairie View A&M University. This is the second-oldest public university in Texas.

Geography of Prairie View
Prairie View is located at 30°4′56″N 95°59′30″W / 30.08222°N 95.99167°W. The city covers about 7.2 square miles (18.7 square kilometers) of land. There is no water area within the city limits.
U.S. Highway 290 goes right through the city. Prairie View is near other towns like Hempstead to the west and Waller to the east. Pine Island is to the south.

Education in Prairie View
Colleges and Universities
Prairie View is famous for Prairie View A&M University. It was started in 1876. This makes it the first public college in Texas for African-Americans. The university offers many different degrees. It is known as a research university.
In fall 2022, Prairie View A&M had almost 9,500 students. Most of these students (about 83%) were Black/African-American. It is the largest HBCU (Historically Black College and University) in Texas.
Blinn College also serves the area. It has a campus nearby for local students.

The Waller Independent School District serves the city of Prairie View.

In September 2018, a new cricket complex opened in Prairie View. It was built by Pakistani American Tanweer Ahmed.
