Early Life and High School Football

Cornell Powell grew up in Greenville, North Carolina. He went to JH Rose High School. During his senior year, he was an amazing player. He caught the ball 65 times for 1,557 yards. He also scored 38 touchdowns in total. After high school, he decided to play college football at Clemson University.

College Football Career

Powell played for the Clemson Tigers from 2016 to 2020. For his first few years, he was a backup receiver. This means he didn't start every game. In 2018, he played in only four games. He then took a redshirt year. This allowed him to practice with the team without using up a year of his playing eligibility.

During his time as a backup, he caught 40 passes for 329 yards and scored three touchdowns. In 2020, his final year, he became a starter. He had a fantastic season, catching 53 passes for 882 yards and scoring seven touchdowns. While at Clemson, Powell was part of two teams that won the College Football Playoff National Championship in 2016 and 2018.

Professional Football Journey

Cornell Powell was chosen by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2021 NFL Draft. He was picked in the fifth round.

Playing for the Kansas City Chiefs

Powell signed his first professional contract with the Chiefs in May 2021. He spent most of his time with the Chiefs on their practice squad. The practice squad is a group of players who train with the team but are not on the main roster. They can be called up to play if needed.

Even though he was often on the practice squad, Powell was part of two amazing championship teams. He won Super Bowl LVII with the Chiefs in 2023. They beat the Philadelphia Eagles in that game. The next year, in 2024, he won his second straight Super Bowl. The Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII. His contract with the Chiefs ended in February 2024. He briefly re-signed with them later that year before being released.

Time with the Seattle Seahawks

In November 2024, Powell joined the Seattle Seahawks practice squad. He signed a future contract with them in January 2025. However, he was released by the Seahawks in February 2025.

Joining the DC Defenders

On March 3, 2025, Cornell Powell signed with the DC Defenders. This team plays in the United Football League (UFL). In his first season with the Defenders in 2025, he had a great year.
