The Story of Cornersville
Before it officially became a town, Cornersville was known as Marathon. It became an official town on January 7, 1830. Its name, Cornersville, came from its special location. It was near the spot where four different counties met. These counties were Giles, Maury, Bedford, and Lincoln.
At first, Cornersville was part of Giles County. But over time, the county lines changed. Since 1870, Cornersville has been a part of Marshall County.
Where is Cornersville?
Cornersville is found at specific map coordinates: 35°21′29″N 86°50′30″W / 35.35806°N 86.84167°W. The town is mainly built around a busy intersection. This is where U.S. Route 31 and State Route 129 cross paths.
The town is located southwest of Lewisburg. It is also northeast of Pulaski. A major highway, Interstate 65, runs just to the west of Cornersville. The United States Census Bureau says that the town covers an area of about 1.9 square miles (4.9 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no water.

In 1880, only 290 people lived in Cornersville. The population slowly grew over the next few decades. By 1970, it had more than doubled to 655 people. The town continued to grow steadily. By the year 2000, the population reached 962. In the most recent count in 2020, there were 1,228 people living in Cornersville. There were 496 households and 354 families in the town at that time.
