About Coronado Center
Coronado Center first opened in March 1965. Back then, it was an open-air mall, meaning you could walk outside between stores. It was built by a company called Homart Development Company.
Mall Makeovers
The mall has had many makeovers to keep it modern and fun!
- In 1975-1976, it became an enclosed mall, so you could shop comfortably no matter the weather.
- It was also updated in 1984, 1992, and 1995.
Growing Bigger: New Stores Over Time
When Coronado Center first opened, it had big stores like Sears and Rhodes Brothers. Over the years, many stores have changed names or been replaced.
For example, Rhodes Brothers became Liberty House, and then Mervyn's. In the mid-1970s, two new large stores, Goldwater's and The Broadway, were added.
Later on, in 1990, JCPenney opened up in the mall. The Broadway store eventually became Macy's in 1996.
In 2006, another Macy's opened in a different spot, and the old Macy's space was taken over by Gordmans and Dick's Sporting Goods. When Mervyn's closed in 2008, Kohl's opened in that spot in 2010.
In 2014, the mall got another update to celebrate its 50th birthday! This was also when the popular clothing store H&M opened its doors.
Fun Food and Entertainment
Coronado Center isn't just for shopping! It has added many exciting food places and entertainment spots. You can find places like The Cheesecake Factory and Blaze Pizza. Other yummy options include Boba Tea Company, Jimmy Johns, Cinnabon, Lolli and Pops, Sees Candies, and Fuddruckers.
In 2017, The Container Store opened, offering cool ways to organize your stuff. Also, Gordmans closed, and the space became Round One Entertainment, which is a great place for games and fun!
More Recent Changes
In 2018, the Sears store at the mall closed. In 2019, the clothing store Urban Outfitters moved to a new spot on the mall's upper level.
You can also find many other well-known stores and services at Coronado Center, such as Barnes & Noble, Sprint, T-Mobile, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Yankee Candle, Escape the Room, The Buckle, Express, Bath & Body Works, Hollister Co., Hot Topic, American Eagle Outfitters, Sephora, and Forever 21.
