History of Corral City
Corral City was officially started in 1973. A woman named Geneva Helton and her husband created the town. They wanted to make a place where certain businesses could operate legally.
The Heltons bought about 20 acres (8.1 hectares) of land. They put in a sewer system and opened a store. After the town was formed, many mobile homes and RVs (recreational vehicles) appeared there.
For about ten years, Corral City grew. But after Geneva Helton retired and her husband passed away in the early 1990s, the town started to decline. A reporter from the Denton Record-Chronicle said that by 1993, Corral City looked like a "ghost town."
Later, a man named James "Eddie" Draper became the mayor and owner of Corral City. He believed the town could become busy again. In October 2016, the town's name was changed to Draper to honor him. However, in 2020, the name was changed back to Corral City.
