Corserine is a cool hill located in the Rhinns of Kells. This area is a part of the Galloway Hills range, which itself is part of the Southern Uplands in Scotland. Corserine is the tallest point in the Rhinns of Kells and the second highest in all of Galloway.
Most people who want to climb Corserine start their journey from a car park at Forrest Lodge. This lodge is east of the hill. From there, they usually follow a path that goes past Loch Harrow and North Gairy Top. Forrest Lodge is just a short drive from the village of St. John's Town of Dalry.
Climbing Corserine
Even though Corserine is a big hill, it's not a place for rock climbing. This is because of the type of rock found there and in the rest of the Rhinns area.
However, if you visit in winter after it's been very cold, you might see something different! When the ground is frozen, there are some great ice climbs. These climbs can be up to 150 meters long. You can find them on the slopes of Milldown, which is just south of Corserine.
