Cory Gunz started his career at a young age. When he was only 14, he was signed by music executive Tommy Mottola to two record labels, Casablanca Records and Def Jam Recordings. Famous rapper Jay-Z also helped guide his early career.
One of his first big appearances was on a remix of Rihanna's song "If It's Lovin' That You Want". He also released a popular mixtape called The Apprentice 3 – Season Finale. A mixtape is a collection of songs, similar to an album, that artists often release for free.

Over the years, Cory Gunz has worked with many different record labels. When Universal Republic Records closed, he and other artists moved to the newly reopened Republic Records. In 2013, he released the mixtape Datz ... I'm Talkin Bout, which featured artists like Busta Rhymes, Wiz Khalifa, and Juicy J.
