The County of Clinton is a special kind of area in Queensland, Australia. It's like an old-fashioned way of dividing up land, used mainly for official records. Think of it as a big, defined block of land.
This county is mostly around the city of Gladstone. It also covers a big part of the wider Gladstone Region.
The County of Clinton was first officially created a long time ago, on 1 September 1855. This happened through a "royal proclamation," which is a special announcement from the government, like a formal declaration. It was part of a law called the Waste Lands Australia Act 1846. This law helped manage how land was used and settled in Australia.
Later, on 7 March 1901, the Governor (who is like the state's main representative) made another official announcement. This one legally divided all of Queensland into these counties. This was done under a new law called the Land Act 1897.
What are the Borders of Clinton County?
The County of Clinton has clear borders, almost like invisible fences. These borders help define exactly where the county begins and ends.
To the south, it meets the County of Yarrol. On its western side, it borders the County of Rawbelle. This western edge also follows the natural path of the Callide Creek and the Don River. To the north, the county's border follows the northern side of the Calliope River. Finally, to the east, the County of Clinton meets the vast Pacific Ocean and the County of Flinders.
