Courtney E. Roby (born January 10, 1983) is a former professional football player. He played as a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL). Courtney played college football for the Indiana Hoosiers. The Tennessee Titans picked him in the 2005 NFL draft. He also played for the Cincinnati Bengals, Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans Saints, and Atlanta Falcons.

Early Life and High School Sports
Courtney Roby grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana. He went to North Central High School. There, he was a star in both football and track. In his final year of high school, he was chosen for the All-State football team. He ran for 539 yards and scored six touchdowns. He also caught 12 passes for 296 yards and three touchdowns. Courtney was great at kickoff returns, averaging 32 yards and scoring three touchdowns. He was also an All-State athlete in track and field. He was picked for Indiana All-Star teams in both sports.
College Career at Indiana University
Courtney went to Indiana University. He played two sports there: football and track. In football, he became a team captain in his senior year. He was also named the team's Most Valuable Player (MVP). Courtney became the best receiver in Hoosier football history. He broke records for career catches and yards. He had 170 catches and 2,524 yards in total.
In 2002, he gained over 1,000 yards in one season. This was a rare achievement for a Hoosier receiver. After his senior year, Courtney was invited to the Senior Bowl All-Star game. This game features the best college players hoping to join the NFL.
As part of the Indiana University track and field team, Courtney ran in the 100-meter dash. He also competed in the 4 × 100-meter relay race. In his junior year, he finished fourth in the Big Ten Conference Championships for the 100-meter race.
Professional Football Journey
Playing for the Tennessee Titans
The Tennessee Titans chose Courtney Roby in the third round of the 2005 NFL draft. He played for them for two seasons. The Titans released him in September 2007.
Time with the Cincinnati Bengals
Courtney then signed with the Cincinnati Bengals in October 2007. He was with the team for a short time. He was released later that month.
Brief Stint with the Indianapolis Colts
In January 2008, Roby joined the Indianapolis Colts. He was released by the Colts in September 2008.
Success with the New Orleans Saints
The New Orleans Saints signed Courtney Roby in October 2008. He played in five games before getting an injury. He later re-signed with the Saints in March 2009. On November 15, 2009, Courtney returned a kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown! He also had a 61-yard return in a big win against the Minnesota Vikings. This set a new record for the Saints in a postseason game.
Courtney finished that season ranked third in the NFL for kick return yards. He was a key player on special teams. He helped the Saints win Super Bowl XLIV. Because of his great play, he was voted the Saints’ Special Teams MVP.
He continued as the Saints’ main kick returner in 2010. In December 2010, Courtney got a serious injury during a kickoff return. He was taken off the field and went to the hospital. He later re-signed with the Saints in April 2012. Roby was released by the team in August 2013.
Final Season with the Atlanta Falcons
On June 27, 2014, Roby signed with the Atlanta Falcons. He played for them for a few months. He was released by the Falcons in October 2014.
Courtney Roby's Family Life
Courtney Roby was born to John Roby Jr. and Donita Turner-Douglas. He is the oldest of four children. He has two brothers, Brandon Walker-Roby and John "Tre" Roby III. Both of his brothers also played wide receiver in college. Courtney also has one sister, Karrington.
Sports run in Courtney's family! His father, John Roby Jr., played basketball for the University of Indianapolis. His cousin, Landon Turner, was a star on the 1981 NCAA Championship Indiana University basketball team. His uncle, Rob Turner, played wide receiver at Indiana University. Courtney is also cousins with Darren Sproles, a former NFL running back, and the late NFL punter Reggie Roby.
Courtney married his wife, Krystal, on July 13, 2013. They have two daughters together.
