A Look at Cowles' Past
Cowles was officially planned and mapped out in 1878. This happened when the railroad tracks were extended to reach that spot. The village was named after W. D. Cowles, who was an important official for the railroad company.
A post office was opened in Cowles in 1879. It served the community for many years. However, the post office eventually closed down in 1960.
