History of Coyote Ugly
The very first Coyote Ugly Saloon opened on January 27, 1993. It was in New York City. A woman named Liliana Lovell started it. She decided to become a bartender instead of taking a job on Wall Street.
In 2001, a second Coyote Ugly Saloon opened. This one was in Las Vegas at the New York-New York Hotel & Casino. It was a "franchise" location. This means someone else paid to open a Coyote Ugly using the original company's name and ideas.
In 2002, a new bar owned by the company opened. It was in New Orleans' French Quarter. Liliana Lovell moved to New Orleans in 2003. She wanted to help run this bar and the company's daily business.
More company-owned locations opened in the next few years. These included San Antonio and Austin, Texas, and Nashville, Tennessee, in 2004. In 2005, one opened in Denver, Colorado. Another opened in Memphis, Tennessee, in 2006. In June 2009, a new Coyote Ugly opened in Oklahoma City.
After that, more franchise bars opened in Florida. These were in Tampa, Panama City Beach, Destin, and Daytona Beach.
Coyote Ugly also started opening locations in other countries. In 2009, the first international franchise opened in Moscow, Russia. Another opened in Koblenz, Germany. Following Moscow, more opened in Russia. These included St. Petersburg in 2010 and Kazan in 2011.
In 2016, the first UK bar opened in Cardiff. Now, there are also bars in Liverpool, Swansea, and Birmingham. A new bar is set to open in Camden, London in August 2022.
