Craighouse (which means Taigh na Creige in Scottish Gaelic) is the main village on the Scottish island of Jura. It's like the capital of the island! Jura is part of the Inner Hebrides, a group of islands off the west coast of Scotland. Craighouse is located on the island's east side, in a calm area called Small Isles Bay. In 1971, about 113 people lived there.
You can reach Craighouse by ferry. Long ago, there was a direct ferry from the mainland. That service stopped, so now you travel a different way. You can take a small vehicle ferry from the nearby island of Islay to Feolin on Jura. From Feolin, it's an 8-mile (13 km) drive on a single-track road to Craighouse. Since 2007, a special ferry for passengers only runs during the summer. This ferry connects Craighouse to the village of Tayvallich on the mainland.
