History of Crawford
How Crawford Got Its Name
In the 1840s, a Baptist minister named Peter Crawford lived in this area. When the town was first planned in 1852, it was called Crawfordsville. This name was used for a while.
Later, in 1870, the name was made shorter to Crawfordville. Finally, in 1879, it was changed to just Crawford.
Railroad Comes to Town
A railroad called the Mobile and Ohio Railroad came through Crawfordsville in 1857. This helped the town connect with other places.
