Discovering Crawford's History
Crawford started way back in 1882. It was named after a person named George A. Crawford, who was going to be the governor of Kansas and also helped start another city in Colorado called Grand Junction. A post office opened in Crawford just one year later, in 1883, helping people send and receive mail.
Celebrating Pioneer Days
For over 40 years, Crawford has held a special town festival called Pioneer Days. It happens every year during the second weekend in June. The festival kicks off with a fun parade and ends with an amazing fireworks show over the reservoir at Crawford State Park.
The Pioneer Days celebration usually includes a play called a Melodrama, which is put on by local people. This play starts on Thursday evening and has two more shows on Saturday. On Friday evening, there's a special auction to raise money, a baking contest, and a tasty BBQ dinner. Saturday is packed with activities like craft booths, horseshoe throwing, and even funny outhouse races! The big finish is the fireworks display on Saturday night at Crawford State Park.

Crawford is located about seventy miles southeast of a bigger city called Grand Junction.
