History of Crawford
Crawford was first known as "Lexington Depot." This name came about because a railroad line was built to this spot. The railroad helped the area grow.
In 1876, the government of Georgia officially made it a town. They named it "Crawford." The city was named after William H. Crawford (1772–1834). He was an important person in the U.S. government a long time ago. He served as the Secretary of War and the Secretary of the Treasury.
