Crawford is a small town located in Washington County, Maine, in the United States. In 2020, about 93 people lived there. The town was named after William H. Crawford, who used to be the Secretary of the Treasury.

History of Crawford

Crawford became an official town on February 11, 1828. It was first called Adams, probably named after the President at that time, John Q. Adams. However, just 17 days later, on February 28, 1828, its name was changed to Crawford. This new name honored William H. Crawford, who was a former Secretary of Treasury from Georgia.
