History of Crawford
Crawford became an official town on February 11, 1828. It was first called Adams, probably named after the President at that time, John Q. Adams. However, just 17 days later, on February 28, 1828, its name was changed to Crawford. This new name honored William H. Crawford, who was a former Secretary of Treasury from Georgia.
