About Crawford Lake
Crawford Lake is a freshwater lake. It's a peaceful spot in the geographic area known as Haultain Township. The lake is not very big, making it a cozy and quiet place.
Where is Crawford Lake?
This lake is in the northern part of Ontario. It's about 8 kilometers (5 miles) northeast of a small community called Gowganda. The lake sits at an elevation of about 348 meters (1,142 feet) above sea level. This means it's quite high up!
How Big is Crawford Lake?
Crawford Lake is shaped a bit like a long oval. It measures about 0.63 kilometers (0.39 miles) in length. Its widest point is around 0.2 kilometers (0.12 miles) across. Imagine walking around it – it wouldn't take too long!
The Journey of Water
Water is always on the move, and Crawford Lake is no exception.
- A small, unnamed creek flows into the lake from the north. This is where the lake gets some of its fresh water.
- At the southern end, another unnamed creek flows out of Crawford Lake. This outflowing water travels towards a nearby lake called Lost Lake.
- From Lost Lake, the water continues its journey through other creeks like Calcite Creek and Sydney Creek.
- Eventually, all this water joins the Montreal River.
- The Montreal River then flows into Lake Timiskaming, which is part of the mighty Ottawa River system. So, water from Crawford Lake travels a long way!
Another Crawford Lake
It can be a bit confusing, but there's actually another lake named Crawford Lake in the same Timiskaming District! This second lake, called Crawford Lake (Milner Township), is located about 15 kilometers (9 miles) southwest of the one we're talking about. Both lakes are part of the same big river systems.
