Crescent was first planned out by a man named Joseph E. Johnson. He was a Latter-day Saint and even published a newspaper there in the 1850s.

Before many of the Latter-day Saints moved to Utah in 1852, the area had different names. It was known as Brownell's Grove and Farmersville. By 1950, Crescent had grown to have about 300 residents.
