Later, his coaches changed his position to a winger. He did very well in this new role. In the 2005–06 season, he scored 11 goals in the third division. He also played one official game for Barcelona's main team in a Copa del Rey match.
Playing for Deportivo La Coruña
In 2006, Cristian joined Deportivo de La Coruña as a free agent. He made his first appearance in La Liga, Spain's top football league, on August 27, 2006. He came into the game as a substitute in a 3–2 win against Real Zaragoza.
He scored his first goal in La Liga while playing against Real Madrid. This goal helped his team win 2–0 at their home stadium, Estadio Riazor. In his second year with Deportivo, he scored another league goal against his old club, Barcelona. However, he played in fewer matches that season.
Time with Hércules CF
After playing even less in the 2008–09 season, Cristian left Deportivo. He then signed a three-year contract with Hércules CF, a team in the second division.
In his first season with Hércules (2009–10), he played 23 games and scored three goals. His efforts helped the team from Alicante return to La Liga after 13 years.
