María Cristina Narbona Ruiz was born on July 29, 1951. She is an important Spanish politician. She has held many big jobs in the Spanish government. For example, she was the First Vice President of the Senate. She also leads a major political group called the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE).

From 2004 to 2008, Cristina Narbona was the Minister of Environment. In this role, she worked to protect nature and the environment in Spain. She was part of the government led by José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero. She is also a trustee for Fundacion IDEAS, which is a research group connected to her political party.

Early Life and Education

Cristina Narbona was born in Madrid, Spain. When she was 12 years old, she moved to Rome, Italy, with her parents. While in Rome, she studied at a university and earned a degree in economics. After finishing her studies, she returned to Spain in 1975.

Beginning Her Political Career

Once back in Spain, Cristina Narbona taught at the University of Seville. She also worked for the regional government in Andalucia. In 1993, she officially joined the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE). She held several positions in the local government of Madrid. Since 2000, she has represented Madrid in the Spanish Congress.

Recent Roles and Personal Life

On June 18, 2017, Cristina Narbona was chosen to be the president of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party. She has been in a relationship with another PSOE politician, Josep Borrell, since 1998. They got married in July 2018. In February 2021, she tested positive for COVID-19 but had only mild symptoms.

Housing and Economy

Cristina Narbona believes that the cost of housing in Spain is too high. She thinks it is especially hard for young people to afford a home. In 2002, she suggested that the government should offer more help in the housing sector.

Environment and Energy

Narbona is against nuclear power. She supports the idea of slowly closing down nuclear power plants in Spain. She also strongly supports the Kyoto Protocols.
