Crows Nest is a very small town in Indiana, United States. It is located in Marion County, about 7 miles north of downtown Indianapolis. In 2020, only 67 people lived there, making it one of the smallest towns around!

Since 1970, Crows Nest has been an "included town" within Indianapolis. This means it is part of the larger city but still has its own local government.

A Look Back: History of Crows Nest

Crows Nest was started in 1927. People say it got its name because many crows used to build their nests nearby.

Exploring the Crows Nest Historic District

A special area called the Town of Crows Nest Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2000. This district is about 65 acres big. It includes 29 important buildings, five sites, four structures, and three objects.

This historic area shows how the town grew between 1905 and 1950. You can see different styles of old buildings there. These include Tudor Revival, Colonial Revival, and Art Deco styles. Some famous homes in the district include the Vellameda (built 1904-1905) and the Eli Lilly House (built in 1930). Eli Lilly was a very important person in Indiana's history.

Where is Crows Nest Located?

Crows Nest is in the northern part of Marion County. It sits on high ground, about 50 feet or more above the White River.

The town is next to other small towns. To the north, you'll find North Crows Nest. To the south, there's Rocky Ripple.

Kessler Boulevard W Drive forms the northern and northwestern edge of the town. Inside Crows Nest, there are only two main streets: Sunset Lane and Questover Circle.

The U.S. Census Bureau says that Crows Nest covers a total area of about 0.43 square miles. All of this area is land, with no water.
