Curtis Rowe Jr. (born July 2, 1949) is a former professional basketball player from the United States. He was a talented forward who played in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Curtis Rowe is well-known for his amazing college career at UCLA. He also played for two famous NBA teams, the Detroit Pistons and the Boston Celtics.
Early Life and College Success
Curtis Rowe was born in Bessemer, Alabama. He grew up to be 6 feet 7 inches tall and weighed 225 pounds. He went to John C. Fremont High School in Los Angeles, California.
After high school, Curtis went to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He played basketball there from 1968 to 1971. During his time at UCLA, he was part of three national championship teams. These teams were coached by the legendary John Wooden. They won the championships in 1969, 1970, and 1971.
Curtis Rowe was one of only four players ever to start on three NCAA championship teams. His teammates who also achieved this were Lew Alcindor, Henry Bibby, and Lynn Shackelford. In 1993, Curtis Rowe was honored for his achievements. He was inducted into the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame.
Playing in the NBA
In 1971, Curtis Rowe was chosen in the 1971 NBA draft by the Detroit Pistons. He was the 11th player picked in the first round. He decided to join the NBA and play for the Pistons.
Curtis Rowe played for eight seasons in the NBA, from 1971 to 1979. He spent most of his career with the Detroit Pistons. Later, he also played for the Boston Celtics.
During his NBA career, Curtis Rowe scored an average of 11.6 points per game. He was a strong player who also grabbed many rebounds. His skills were recognized when he was chosen to play in the 1976 NBA All-Star Game. This is a special game where the best players from the league compete.
Personal Life
Curtis Rowe is the father of comedian Cameron Rowe.
