Curtis Samuel (born August 11, 1996) is an American professional football player. He is a wide receiver for the Buffalo Bills in the National Football League (NFL).

Before joining the NFL, Curtis played college football for the Ohio State Buckeyes. He helped them win the 2015 College Football Playoff National Championship. In 2016, he was recognized as an All-American. The Carolina Panthers picked him in the second round of the 2017 NFL draft. He played four seasons with the Panthers and three seasons with the Washington Commanders before joining the Bills in 2024.

Early Life and High School

Curtis Samuel grew up in Brooklyn, New York. He went to Erasmus Hall High School. There, he was a star player on the football team. He played as a running back.

In 2012, when he was a junior, Curtis ran for over 1,000 yards. He scored 13 touchdowns. The New York Daily News named him City Player of the Year. He was also very fast in track. He won the 55-meter race at the New York State championships.

In his senior year, Curtis continued to shine. He ran for 1,461 yards and 17 touchdowns. He was named the 2013 New York Gatorade Player of the Year. He was also invited to play in the All-American Bowl.

College Career at Ohio State

Curtis Samuel was a highly-rated recruit. He chose to play college football for the Ohio State Buckeyes. He played for three seasons, from 2014 to 2016. His coach was Urban Meyer.

In 2014, he ran for 383 yards and six touchdowns. He also caught 11 passes for 95 yards. The Buckeyes won the national championship that year.

In 2015, he had 132 rushing yards and one touchdown. He also caught 22 passes for 289 yards and two touchdowns.

His best college season was 2016. He ran for 771 yards and eight touchdowns. He also caught 74 passes for 865 yards and seven touchdowns. He was named first-team All-Big Ten and All-American. Curtis is the only player in Ohio State history to gain over 1,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving in his career.

Before the NFL Draft, Curtis Samuel changed his main position to wide receiver.

Carolina Panthers

2017 Season

The Carolina Panthers picked Curtis in the second round of the 2017 NFL draft. He was the 40th player chosen overall. He signed a four-year contract with the team.

In his first NFL game, he caught two passes for seven yards. Later that season, he got hurt. He had an ankle injury in Week 10. This injury ended his rookie season early. He finished with 15 catches for 115 yards. He also had 64 rushing yards.

2018 Season

Curtis scored his first NFL touchdown in 2018. It happened in a game against the New York Giants. He ended the season with 39 catches for 494 yards. He scored five receiving touchdowns. He also ran for 84 yards and two rushing touchdowns.

2019 Season

In 2019, Curtis caught five passes for 53 yards in Week 3. He scored his first receiving touchdown of the season in that game. For the whole season, he had 54 catches for 627 yards. He scored six receiving touchdowns. He also ran for 130 yards and one rushing touchdown.

2020 Season

Curtis had a great game in Week 9 against the Kansas City Chiefs. He caught nine passes for 105 yards and a touchdown. In Week 11, he helped the Panthers win against the Detroit Lions. He caught eight passes for 70 yards. He also caught the first touchdown pass thrown by quarterback P. J. Walker.

He finished the 2020 season with 77 catches for 851 yards. He scored three receiving touchdowns. He also ran for 200 yards and two rushing touchdowns.

Washington Football Team / Commanders

2021 Season

Curtis signed a three-year contract with the Washington Football Team in 2021. He joined his college roommate, Terry McLaurin, on the team.

He faced some challenges with injuries that year. He had a groin injury and was also placed on the COVID-19 list. He played in only five games. He had six catches for 27 yards.

2022 Season

In 2022, Curtis played in all 17 games. He scored his first touchdown for Washington in the first game. He caught eight passes for 55 yards and ran for 17 yards. The next game, he had another receiving touchdown.

He finished the year with 64 catches for 646 yards. He scored four receiving touchdowns. He also ran for 187 yards and one rushing touchdown.

2023 Season

For the 2023 season, Curtis changed his jersey number to 4. He had 62 catches for 613 yards and four touchdowns. In one game against the Cowboys, he gained over 100 receiving yards.

Buffalo Bills

On March 14, 2024, Curtis Samuel joined the Buffalo Bills. He signed a three-year contract with them.

He made his first playoff appearance with the Bills. He scored his first career playoff touchdown. It was a 55-yard catch from quarterback Josh Allen. This helped the Bills win their game.
