History of Cushing
Cushing started as a town because of the railroad. It was named after the main boss of the railroad workers. Interestingly, Cushing has been rebuilt three times after being destroyed by fires!
The city has also faced many tornadoes. One of the most recent strong tornadoes was an EF2 tornado that hit on March 21, 2022. Despite these challenges, the people of Cushing have always worked to rebuild their community.
Cushing in Movies
Cushing, Texas, was a filming location for a TV movie called The Long Summer of George Adams. Even though the story was set in Cushing, Oklahoma, the movie was filmed right here in Cushing, Texas. It also used locations in Maydelle, Texas, Rusk, Texas, and along the Texas State Railroad. The movie, starring James Garner and Joan Hackett, first aired on TV in 1982.
