The Chinese green snake (also known as Ptyas major) is a cool type of snake. It belongs to a big family of snakes called Colubridae. These snakes are known for being active during the day.

About the Chinese Green Snake

This snake is quite slim and medium-sized. It usually grows to about 75 to 90 centimeters (2.5 to 3 feet) long. Some can even reach up to 120 centimeters (4 feet).

Its back is a bright green color. The scales on its belly are a greenish-yellow. Most of its back scales are smooth. However, male snakes have some slightly raised scales along their middle back. Sometimes, you might see small black spots on their backs. If a Chinese green snake dies, its body often turns a bluish color.

Where Do Green Snakes Live?

The Chinese green snake lives in many parts of Asia. You can find it in central and southern China. This includes places like Hainan, Henan, Gansu, and Hong Kong.

They also live in Taiwan, northern Vietnam, Laos, and Bangladesh. In Bangladesh, they are found in areas like Sylhet and Ratargul Swamp Forest.

These snakes prefer to live in places that are humid. You can often find them in forests. They also like to live in farmland areas.

The Chinese green snake is active during the day. This means it hunts and moves around when the sun is out. It also spends some of its time in trees.

Chinese green snakes enjoy a diet of soft-bodied creatures. Their favorite foods include earthworms. They also eat insect larvae, which are young insects.
