She attended Colegio Inmaculada for her primary school years. Later, she went to Indoamérica de Guayaquil. Cynthia Viteri studied at the University of Guayaquil. There, she earned a degree in social science and politics. She continued her studies at the same university. She then received a doctor's degree in law.

Career Beginnings

Cynthia Viteri started her career as a newsreader at Telecentro. This job helped her gain experience in media. Later, she became the public relations manager for Jaime Nebot. He is a leader of the Social Christian Party. Cynthia's sister, Nathalie Viteri, is also a member of the National Assembly for this party.

Political Journey

Cynthia Viteri began her political career in 1997. She was elected to the National Constituent Assembly. This assembly helped create new laws for the country. After this, she was elected to the National Congress in 1998. She represented the Guayas Province.

Serving in Congress

Cynthia Viteri served in the National Congress until 2003. She was re-elected to the National Congress in 2002. From 2005 to 2006, she held an important role. Mayor of Guayaquil

On March 24, 2019, Cynthia Viteri was elected Mayor of Guayaquil. She served a term from May 14, 2019, until May 14, 2023. During the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, she took action to block the airport runway in Guayaquil. This action was intended to prevent planes from landing. This decision caused some disagreement with the national government.

Personal Life

Cynthia Viteri is married to Juan Carlos Váscones. They have five children. In March 2020, Cynthia Viteri announced that she had been infected with the coronavirus (COVID-19).
