Dündar Ali Osman (born December 30, 1930 – died January 18, 2021) was an important person in the House of Osman. This family once ruled the powerful Ottoman Empire. Dündar Ali Osman was the 45th head of this family.
The Ottoman Empire was a very large and strong empire. It existed from 1299 until 1922. After 1922, the empire ended, and the country became the Republic of Turkey. Even though the empire was gone, the Ottoman family continued to exist.
Early Life and Family
Dündar Ali Osman was born on December 30, 1930. His birthplace was Damascus, which is now in Syria. He was a great-grandson of Abdul Hamid II, who was an Ottoman Sultan.
His grandfather was named Şehzade Mehmed Selim. His father was Şehzade Mehmed Abdülkerim. Dündar Ali Osman had a younger brother named Harun Osman, who was born in 1932. Dündar Ali Osman was married to Yüsra Hanım. They did not have any children. Yüsra Hanım passed away in Damascus in 2017.
Later Years and Passing
In 1974, members of the Ottoman family were allowed to return to Turkey. Many family members moved back to Istanbul. However, Dündar Ali Osman chose to stay in Damascus, Syria.
In 2011, a conflict called the Syrian Civil War began in Syria. News reports in 2013 showed that Dündar Ali Osman was still in Syria during the war. In August 2017, the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, ordered his evacuation. Dündar Ali Osman was first taken to Beirut in Lebanon. Later, he moved to Istanbul, Turkey.
Dündar Ali Osman passed away on January 18, 2021, in Damascus. He was 90 years old. After his death, his brother Harun Osman became the new head of the House of Osman.
