Dernst "D'Mile" Emile II (born January 24, 1985) is an American music producer and songwriter. He grew up in Brooklyn, New York City. D'Mile is known for creating hit songs for many famous artists.
He first started producing music for Rihanna's album Music of the Sun in 2005. He also worked on Mary J. Blige's album The Breakthrough that same year. Later, he learned more about music production from Rodney Jerkins, who is also known as "Darkchild."
D'Mile has won several major awards for his work. In 2020, his songs with artists like H.E.R. and Lucky Daye were nominated for seven Grammy Awards. He made history by winning the Song of the Year award two years in a row. He won in 2021 for co-writing H.E.R.'s song "I Can't Breathe." Then, in 2022, he won again for Silk Sonic's hit song "Leave the Door Open." D'Mile also won an Academy Award for Best Original Song for "Fight for You. This song was featured in the movie Judas and the Black Messiah.

Early Life and Musical Roots
Dernst Emile II was born on January 24, 1985. His mother is Yanick Étienne, a Haitian singer who toured with Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music. His father, Dernst Emile, is also a music producer. D'Mile grew up in Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York City. He started playing the keyboard when he was very young.
Starting His Music Career (2005–2012)
D'Mile began his professional music career in 2005. His first big production was on Rihanna's album Music of the Sun. He helped produce and write the song "That La, La, La." In the same year, he worked on Mary J. Blige's album The Breakthrough, co-writing and producing "Gonna Breakthrough."
After these early successes, D'Mile met Rodney Jerkins, a famous producer. D'Mile worked with Jerkins for two years, learning a lot about music production.
One of his first major chart successes was with Janet Jackson's album Discipline. He produced and co-wrote the song "Feedback," which became a number one hit on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart. He also worked on other songs from that album, like "Luv."
D'Mile also produced "Favorite Girl" for Justin Bieber's first album, My World. He continued to work with top artists, including Mary J. Blige again for her song "In the Morning."
In 2010, D'Mile worked with Diddy and Dirty Money on their album "Last Train To Paris." He produced the song "Shades," which featured Justin Timberlake and Lil Wayne. He also produced several songs for Jennifer Lopez's 2011 album, Love?, including "One Love."
He was the main producer for Diggy Simmons' album Unexpected Arrival in 2012. D'Mile also produced "Long Distance" for Melanie Amaro, who won the X-Factor in 2011.
Recent Projects and Achievements (2013–Present)
D'Mile has worked closely with artist Ty Dolla Sign on many projects. He produced songs for Ty Dolla Sign's "Beach House" series, including Beach House, Beach House 2, Beach House EP, and Beach House 3. Ty Dolla Sign has praised D'Mile, calling him "literally the best producer [he has] ever worked with."
In 2016, D'Mile produced two songs, "Mind Of A Man" and "FWM," for Usher's album Hard II Love.
From 2016 to 2017, D'Mile produced every song on Lucky Daye's first album, Painted. This album was released in 2019 and was nominated for Best R&B Album at the 2020 Grammy Awards. Some songs from the album also received nominations.
In 2020, D'Mile co-produced "Forever Valentine" for Charlie Wilson with Bruno Mars. He and Bruno Mars also created the song "Whenever You Call" for the Japanese group Arashi.
His recent work includes producing multiple songs for Silk Sonic's Grammy-winning album An Evening with Silk Sonic, such as "Leave the Door Open" and "Smokin Out the Window". In 2024, he produced "Number One Girl" for Rosé's album Rosie.
