DeVante Jaylen Wilson (born February 19, 1996) is an American professional basketball player. He plays for the Shanghai Sharks in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). Before joining the Sharks, he played college basketball for the Michigan Wolverines. He was chosen 17th overall in the 2017 NBA draft by the Milwaukee Bucks. He played four seasons with the Bucks before moving to the Houston Rockets in March 2021.

Early Life and Basketball Beginnings
D. J. Wilson grew up in Sacramento, California. He went to Capital Christian School. During his time there, he faced a tough injury. He had a stress fracture in his lower back. This injury kept him from playing in the summer of 2012. It also affected part of his junior year. He had to wear a back brace for three months.
Despite his injury, Wilson grew a lot. He grew 5 inches in one year, reaching a height of 6 feet 8 inches (2.03 m). By June 2013, he was back on the court. He scored 22 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in a game. Soon after, big schools like Michigan started to notice him. He chose Michigan over other offers.
Wilson officially signed with Michigan on November 13, 2013. He was a highly-rated player. Experts ranked him as one of the top prospects in the country.

College Career at Michigan
Freshman Year (2014–2015)
Before his first season, Wilson had finger surgery. This kept him off the court for some time. He also had a condition called "knock-kneed." Special therapy helped him improve his vertical jump by 8 inches (20 cm).
During his freshman season, Wilson got another injury. He sprained his knee during a game against Villanova. This injury caused him to miss the rest of the season.
Sophomore Year (2015–2016)
Wilson played in 26 games during his second year. On December 19, 2015, Michigan won a game by a huge margin. Wilson scored 12 points in this game. He also became a strong shot blocker for his team. He had 10 blocked shots that season. This included two blocks in a big upset win against Maryland.
Junior Year (2016–2017)

Wilson had a fantastic junior season. On January 1, he scored a career-high 28 points. He also grabbed 14 rebounds in a close game against Iowa. On his birthday, February 19, he scored 16 points. He even made a game-tying three-point shot.
In the Big Ten Conference tournament, Wilson was a star. He helped Michigan win the championship. He averaged 15.3 points per game in the tournament. He also had 8 rebounds and 3 blocked shots in one key game.
Michigan then played in the 2017 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament. Wilson continued to play well. He averaged 16 points, 3 blocks, and 4.3 rebounds. He helped Michigan reach the "Sweet Sixteen" round. He was great at free throws in the final seconds of close games.
Wilson finished his junior season as Michigan's top rebounder and shot blocker. He had 203 rebounds and 57 blocks. After this successful season, he decided to enter the 2017 NBA draft. He chose to leave college early to pursue his dream.
Professional Basketball Career
Milwaukee Bucks (2017–2021)
On June 22, 2017, the Milwaukee Bucks drafted D. J. Wilson. He was the 17th player chosen overall. He signed his first professional contract with the Bucks on July 6. He played his first NBA game on October 20, 2017. During his time with the Bucks, he also played for their minor league team, the Wisconsin Herd.
In the 2018–19 season, Wilson missed some games due to a hamstring injury. But he still showed his skills. On December 19, he grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds. On December 27, he achieved his first "double-double." This means he had 10 or more in two categories (10 points and 14 rebounds). He kept improving his scoring, reaching 16 points in a game on January 31. On April 10, he had a career-best 18 points and 17 rebounds.
The Bucks extended Wilson's contract through the 2020–21 season. On December 2, 2019, he scored a new career-high of 19 points against the New York Knicks.
Houston Rockets (2021)
In March 2021, Wilson was traded to the Houston Rockets. He played for the Rockets for a short period. In August, the Rockets decided not to keep him, making him a free agent.
Toronto Raptors and Oklahoma City Blue (2021–2023)
After leaving the Rockets, Wilson signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder in September 2021. He later joined their G League team, the Oklahoma City Blue. He played well for the Blue, averaging 13.9 points and 9.6 rebounds.
In December 2021, Wilson signed a short contract with the Toronto Raptors. He played a few games for them. He returned to the Oklahoma City Blue in January 2022. He signed another contract with the Raptors in February 2022 but was later waived. He rejoined the Blue but then had a season-ending injury.
In July 2022, the Raptors signed Wilson again, but he was waived in October. He then returned to the Oklahoma City Blue for the 2022–23 season.
Osceola Magic and Philadelphia 76ers (2023–2024)
In February 2023, Wilson was traded to the Lakeland Magic (now Osceola Magic). He signed with the Orlando Magic in September but was waived. He then joined the Osceola Magic in November.
On March 24, 2024, Wilson signed a short contract with the Philadelphia 76ers. After that, he went back to play for the Osceola Magic.
Shanghai Sharks (2024–Present)
On September 6, 2024, D. J. Wilson signed with the Shanghai Sharks. He now plays for them in the Chinese Basketball Association.
