Khalil Abdul-Rahman Hazzard (born October 16, 1974), known as DJ Khalil, is an American music producer and DJ. He is from Los Angeles, California.
DJ Khalil is the son of NBA basketball player Walt Hazzard. In 2001, he joined Dr. Dre's record label, Aftermath Entertainment. He became one of their main music producers.
He has helped create many popular albums. These include Recovery (2010) and The Marshall Mathers LP 2 (2013) by Eminem. He also worked on Donda (2021) by Kanye West and Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers (2022) by Kendrick Lamar. These albums all reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart.
DJ Khalil has also worked on hit songs. Some of these are "The Man" by Aloe Blacc and "Kush" by Dr. Dre. He also produced "Survival" by Eminem and "Hurricane" by Kanye West. These songs made it into the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Besides producing, he is also a musician. He formed the hip hop group Self Scientific in 1994. Later, in 2008, he started another group called The New Royales. This group includes Liz Rodrigues, Erik Alcock, and Chin Injeti.
Early Life
DJ Khalil was born in Seattle, Washington. He grew up in Los Angeles, California. His father, Walt Hazzard, was a professional basketball player. Walt Hazzard played in the National Basketball Association.
When Khalil was 13, he met Dr. Dre at a party. Years later, he would become a producer for Dr. Dre's label. Khalil also played basketball in high school and college. He was a point guard at North Hollywood High School and Morehouse College.
Music Career
Khalil started his music journey as a disc jockey (DJ). Then, he began to produce his own music. He first made beats using a machine called the Ensoniq ASR-10. Later, he used music software like Propellerhead Reason.
He has produced music for many famous artists. These include Kanye West, 50 Cent, Pink, Drake, and Eminem. He has worked with artists in hip-hop, R&B, and pop music.
