Jason Matthew Quenneville, known as DaHeala, is a Canadian music producer and songwriter. He was born on February 23, 1982. He is managed by SAL&CO.
He has worked with many famous artists. These include The Weeknd, Halsey, Lil Uzi Vert, and Belly. DaHeala has been nominated for three Grammy Awards. These nominations were for his work on The Weeknd's 2015 album, Beauty Behind the Madness. Throughout his career, he has also worked with other top producers. DaHeala's Early Life and Start in Music
DaHeala grew up in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada. His family spoke both French and English. When he was 13, he learned to DJ at a youth center. This led him to learn how to make music using a program called FL Studio.
At 23, he started producing music. His first big project was a mixtape for the artist Belly. It was called Death Before Dishonor. He kept working with Belly on albums like The Revolution in 2007. He also produced every song on Massari's first album in 2005.
Working with The Weeknd and Big Hits
DaHeala started working with The Weeknd in 2013. He helped produce every song on The Weeknd's album, Kiss Land. He worked on this album with DannyBoyStyles and The Weeknd himself.
In 2014, he produced a song called "In Vein" for Rick Ross's album, Mastermind. The Weeknd was also featured on this song. DaHeala worked with other producers, Metro Boomin and Rick Rubin, on this track.
In 2015, DaHeala was a main producer for The Weeknd's album, Beauty Behind the Madness. He produced and wrote several songs on the album. These included "Often", "Acquainted", and "Dark Times". "Dark Times" featured Ed Sheeran. He also worked on "Earned It". This song was part of the soundtrack for the 2015 movie Fifty Shades of Grey.
"Earned It" was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song. It also received two Grammy nominations. These were for Best R&B Song and Best Song Written for Visual Media. DaHeala shared these nominations with The Weeknd, Belly, and Stephan Moccio. The album Beauty Behind the Madness was nominated for Grammy Award for Album of the Year. More Success and Awards
In 2016, DaHeala helped write five songs on The Weeknd's third album, Starboy. This included the song "Starboy", which featured Daft Punk. For helping write "Starboy", DaHeala won a SOCAN No. 1 Song Award. SOCAN stands for the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada.
Also in 2016, he co-wrote "Not Afraid Anymore" for Halsey. This song was on the soundtrack for the movie Fifty Shades Darker. Over the next two years, DaHeala produced and wrote songs for other artists. These included Lil Uzi Vert ("UnFazed"), French Montana ("A Lie"), and Nav ("What I Need").
In 2020, DaHeala helped write and produce songs for The Weeknd's fourth album, After Hours. This included the hit song "Blinding Lights" from 2019. "Blinding Lights" became the #1 Greatest Hot 100 Hit of All Time on the Billboard charts in 2021. In March 2020, The Weeknd released three extra songs for the album. DaHeala produced all of these bonus tracks.
