History of Dafter Community
The community of Dafter started as a place where people worked with lumber. In January 1879, it got its first post office. It was called "Stevensburgh," named after George Stevens, who was the first postmaster. Later, in July 1893, the post office's name was changed to Dafter. This new name came from the township itself. Dafter was also a stop on the Minneapolis, St. Paul & Sault Ste. Marie Railroad, which was important for travel and trade back then.
