Daguao is a barrio, which is like a neighborhood or district, in the town of Naguabo, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 2,273 people lived there.
Daguao's History
Long ago, Daguao was planned to be the capital city of Puerto Rico. However, groups like the Caribs from the nearby island of Vieques and the Taínos from eastern Puerto Rico caused destruction in the area.
Later, after the Spanish–American War, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened under the rules of the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became an unincorporated territory of the United States.
In 1899, the United States government counted the people in Puerto Rico. They found that 756 people lived in Daguao barrio at that time.
