Dakota City is a city in the state of Nebraska, United States. It is also the county seat of Dakota County, Nebraska. In 2010, the population was 1,919 people. By 2020, it had grown to 2,081 residents. A very large Tyson Foods beef production plant is located here.

History of Dakota City
Dakota City was planned and mapped out in 1856. This process is called "platting." The city was named after the Dakota people, a Native American group. Dakota City officially became a city in 1858.
The Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Dakota City is a special historical building. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means it is recognized for its important history.

In 2010, there were 1,919 people living in Dakota City. These people lived in 637 households, with 464 of them being families. The city had about 1,777 people per square mile (686 per square kilometer).
Most of the people in Dakota City were White (82.4%). There were also smaller groups of African American (0.8%), Native American (1.9%), and Asian (4.5%) residents. About 8.3% of people were from other races, and 2.1% were from two or more races. About 29.3% of the population was Hispanic or Latino.
Out of the 637 households, 41% had children under 18 living there. More than half (55.9%) were married couples. About 11.8% had a female head of household with no husband. Only 5.2% had a male head of household with no wife. About 27.2% were not families.
The average age in Dakota City was 34.6 years old. About 29.3% of residents were under 18. About 9.8% were 65 years or older. The city had slightly more males (51.1%) than females (48.9%).
