Dalarö is a charming town located in Haninge Municipality, Stockholm County, Sweden. In 2020, about 1,915 people lived there.
Dalarö is found south-east of Stockholm, Sweden's capital city. It is a popular place for people from Stockholm to visit in the summer. They come here to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. In 2004, the car company Volvo even used Dalarö for a special advertising campaign called The Mystery of Dalarö.
A Look at Dalarö's History
Dalarö is the oldest town in Haninge Municipality. It started as an important place for maritime pilots and customs officers. Pilots helped guide ships safely into port. Customs officers collected taxes on goods coming into the country.
In the late 1800s, Dalarö became a very popular summer resort. Many people from Stockholm built holiday homes here. It was a favorite spot for Sweden's high society. Since the 19th century, Dalarö has also welcomed international guests.
Today, many of Dalarö's buildings are very old and important. They are considered to be of national interest. The town has a mix of homes for people who live there all year. It also has many summer cottages. During the warmer months, Dalarö is visited by lots of tourists.
