Haninge Municipality (called Haninge kommun in Swedish) is a special area in Sweden. It is like a local government district. You can find it in the eastern part of central Sweden, within Stockholm County. The main town where the local government offices are located is called Handen. Handen is actually part of the larger Stockholm urban area.

Haninge Municipality was created in 1971. Before that, it was two separate areas named Västerhaninge and Österhaninge. These two areas joined together to form the Haninge we know today.

The symbol of Haninge Municipality, called a coat of arms, shows a capercaillie. This is a large bird. Many people think the name Haninge comes from the German word hahn, which means capercaillie. The coat of arms also has an anchor. This anchor is a symbol for the important naval base located in the municipality. It's believed that the German word connection comes from old German traders, called Hansa traders, who used to work in this area a long time ago.
