Damon M. Evans is a top leader in college sports. He is currently the Athletic Director and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at the University of Maryland. He first took on this role temporarily in October 2017. Then, in June 2018, he was officially named the permanent athletic director.

Early Life and Education
Damon Evans was born in 1970 in Nebraska, U.S. He grew up and went to Gainesville High School in Hall County, Georgia. After high school, he went to the University of Georgia (UGA).
At UGA, he played football as a Wide receiver for the Georgia Bulldogs. He was a student-athlete from 1988 to 1991. In 1992, he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree in finance from the Terry College of Business. He continued his studies at UGA and received his Master of Education (M.Ed.) in sports management in 1994.
Career in Sports Administration
Evans started his career in sports administration in 1993. He worked as an intern for the Southeastern Conference (SEC). There, he helped with rules and academic matters. In 1994, he became the director of compliance and operations at the University of Missouri.
He returned to the SEC in 1995 as the director of compliance. He was promoted to assistant commissioner for compliance in 1997. This role meant he helped make sure all teams followed the rules. In 1998, he went back to the University of Georgia as an associate athletics director.
Leadership at Georgia
From 1998 to 2001, Evans was part of the NCAA Division I-A management council. This group helps make decisions for college sports. He also led a special group at UGA. This group checked the school records of students who wanted to play sports. In 2000, he became the senior associate athletics director.
In December 2003, the president of UGA, Michael F. Adams, announced big news. Damon Evans would take over as the new athletic director. He replaced the long-time AD and former Bulldogs coach, Vince Dooley, on July 1, 2004.
As athletic director at UGA, Evans managed a large sports program. By 2006, the University of Georgia Athletic Association had 19 different sports teams. It also had over 500 student-athletes and a staff of 250 people. The budget for the athletic program was about $65 million.
Leading Maryland Athletics
In October 2017, Evans was asked to step in as the temporary athletic director at the University of Maryland. This happened after the previous athletic director took a break. On June 25, 2018, the university officially named Damon Evans their permanent athletic director. In this role, he leads all the sports teams and programs at the University of Maryland.
