Danny Ray Brouillette (born August 18, 1962) is an American government official and businessman. He was the Secretary of Energy for the United States from 2019 to 2021. Before that, he was the Deputy Secretary of Energy from 2017 to 2019. In 2023, he was chosen to lead the Edison Electric Institute, an important energy group.

Early Life and Education
Dan Brouillette grew up in Paincourtville, Louisiana. He went to the University of Maryland Global Campus and finished his studies in 1995.
Dan Brouillette's Career Journey
Early Roles and Government Work
After serving in the United States Army, Dan Brouillette worked for U.S. Representative Billy Tauzin. He was a legislative director from 1989 to 1997. He then worked for a lobbying firm in Washington D.C. From 2001 to 2003, he was an Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of Energy. He worked under President George W. Bush.
Brouillette also served as chief of staff for Rep. Billy Tauzin. He was staff director for the House Energy and Commerce Committee from 2003 to 2004. During this time, he helped create parts of the Energy Policy Act of 2005. This law dealt with energy loans and the import/export of natural gas.
Work in the Private Sector
From 2004 to 2006, Brouillette was a vice president at Ford Motor Company. He was part of Ford's North American Operating Committee. In 2006, he became a senior vice president at United Services Automobile Association. He led their public policy efforts.
From 2013 to 2016, Brouillette was a member of Louisiana's State Mineral and Energy Board. In 2020, he received an award from the University of Maryland Global Campus for his achievements. In 2021, he joined the board of advisors for the American Council for Capital Formation.
Deputy Secretary of Energy (2017–2019)
On April 3, 2017, President Donald Trump announced he would nominate Brouillette. He was chosen to be the Deputy Secretary of Energy. The U.S. Senate confirmed his nomination on August 3, 2017. He officially started his role on August 8, 2017.
Secretary of Energy (2019–2021)
On October 18, 2019, President Trump announced he would nominate Brouillette again. This time, it was to be the United States Secretary of Energy. He would replace Rick Perry, who was stepping down. The Senate confirmed his nomination on December 2, 2019, with a vote of 70 to 15.
Brouillette was formally sworn in as Secretary of Energy on December 11, 2019. In December 2020, he held an important meeting. This meeting included the energy minister of Israel and ministers from several Arab nations. It was part of the Abraham Accords, which aimed to bring peace to the Middle East.
On January 7, 2021, Brouillette promised a smooth changeover. This was as the Trump administration ended and the Biden administration began.
After the Trump Administration
Sempra Infrastructure
In July 2021, Brouillette was named president of Sempra Infrastructure. He started working with the company in November of that year. At Sempra, he oversaw big energy projects. This included the Port Arthur LNG project in Texas. He also worked on a deal for Cameron LNG Phase 2.
Edison Electric Institute
On August 16, 2023, the Edison Electric Institute chose Brouillette as its president and CEO. This group represents electric utility companies in the United States. He started this role on January 1, 2024. He resigned on October 28, 2024, to focus on global energy issues.
Personal Life
Dan Brouillette and his wife, Adrienne, are both U.S. Army veterans. They have nine children, all of whom they homeschooled. They live in Maryland. Dan served in the Army from 1982 to 1987. He was a tank commander in Germany. He also served as a Drill Sergeant in the Army Reserve in South Carolina.
