Danny Ray Brouillette (born August 18, 1962) is an American government official and businessman. He served as the 15th United States Secretary of Energy under President Donald Trump from 2019 to 2021. Before that, he was the United States Deputy Secretary of Energy from 2017 to 2019. In 2023, Brouillette became the president and chief executive officer of the Edison Electric Institute.

Early Life and Education
Danny Brouillette was born in Paincourtville, Louisiana. He studied at the University of Maryland Global Campus, graduating in 1995.
Career Highlights
After serving in the United States Army, Brouillette worked for U.S. representative Billy Tauzin. He was Tauzin's legislative director from 1989 to 1997. This meant he helped create laws and policies.
From 2001 to 2003, he worked in the United States Department of Energy. He was an Assistant Secretary, helping with communication between the department and Congress. This was during President George W. Bush's time.
Brouillette also worked as chief of staff for Rep. Billy Tauzin. He was also a staff director for the United States House Committee on Energy and Commerce. This committee deals with energy and business laws. He helped create parts of the Energy Policy Act of 2005. This law set rules for energy, like how natural gas can be imported.
From 2004 to 2006, Brouillette was a vice president at Ford Motor Company. He also worked at United Services Automobile Association starting in 2006. There, he led their public policy efforts.
He was also a member of Louisiana's State Mineral and Energy Board. This board helps manage the state's natural resources. In 2020, he received an award from the University of Maryland Global Campus for his achievements.
Deputy Secretary of Energy (2017–2019)
In 2017, President Donald Trump chose Brouillette to be the United States Deputy Secretary of Energy. The Deputy Secretary is the second-highest official in the Department of Energy. The U.S. Senate approved his nomination on August 3, 2017. He officially started his role on August 8, 2017.
Secretary of Energy (2019–2021)
On October 18, 2019, President Trump announced that Brouillette would become the new United States Secretary of Energy. This role is in charge of the entire Department of Energy. He replaced Rick Perry.
The Senate confirmed his nomination on December 2, 2019, with a vote of 70 to 15. Brouillette was officially sworn in on December 11, 2019.
As Secretary, he worked on important energy issues. In December 2020, he helped arrange a meeting between the energy minister of Israel and ministers from several Arab nations. This was part of the Abraham Accords, which aimed to improve relations in the Middle East.

On January 7, 2021, Brouillette promised a smooth changeover of power. This was when the Trump administration was ending and the Biden administration was beginning.
After Government Service
Sempra Infrastructure
In July 2021, Brouillette became the president of Sempra Infrastructure. He started this job in November of that year. At Sempra, he helped oversee big energy projects. One example was the Port Arthur LNG project in Texas. LNG is natural gas that has been cooled to a liquid state for easier transport.
Edison Electric Institute
On August 16, 2023, the Edison Electric Institute announced that Brouillette would be its new president and chief executive officer. This group represents electric utility companies in the United States. He started this role on January 1, 2024. However, he resigned on October 28, 2024, to focus on global energy issues.
Personal Life
Danny Brouillette and his wife, Adrienne, are both veterans of the U.S. Army. They have nine children, and they homeschooled all of them. The family lives in Maryland.
Brouillette served in the Army from 1982 to 1987. He was a tank commander in Germany. He also worked as a Drill Sergeant in the United States Army Reserve in South Carolina.
