The Dan Hole River is a small but important river in New Hampshire, United States. It flows through the town of Ossipee in the eastern part of the state. This river is about 5.1-mile-long (8.2 km), which is roughly the length of 90 football fields!

Its waters travel a long way to reach the Atlantic Ocean. They flow into the Beech River, then the Pine River, and eventually into Ossipee Lake. From there, the water continues its journey through the Ossipee River and the Saco River before finally reaching the Gulf of Maine, which is part of the huge Atlantic Ocean.

Where Does the Dan Hole River Start?

The Dan Hole River begins its journey at a place called Dan Hole Pond. This pond is located on the southern edge of the Ossipee Mountains. Imagine the river as a stream of water leaving this pond.

The River's Path Through Ponds

Right after leaving Dan Hole Pond, the river quickly flows into another, smaller body of water called Little Dan Hole Pond. It doesn't stay there long! The river then exits from the northern side of Little Dan Hole Pond.

Flowing East to the Beech River

From Little Dan Hole Pond, the Dan Hole River flows mainly towards the east. It passes by a small area known as Moultonville. Its journey ends when it meets the Beech River. This meeting point is just south of a village called Center Ossipee. So, the Dan Hole River is like a helper, bringing its water to the larger Beech River.
