Where is Shireen Abad?
Shireen Abad is found at the base of the Kohistan Salt Mountains. It is about 3 kilometers east of the famous Khewra Salt Mine. This mine is also called the Mayo Salt Mine. The village is about 7 kilometers north of Pind Dadan Khan. It is also near the Jhelum River. Shireen Abad is bordered by other places like Dandot, Khewra, and Choran.
A Look at History
The area around Shireen Abad has an interesting past. It was once known as Kaala Teeashun, which means Dark Station. This name came from the first railway station built here. The British set up this station in the early 1930s. They used it to transport coal and gypsum from the area.
Around the same time, the Dalmia-Jain Group saw the potential of this land. They noticed there was a lot of gypsum. Gypsum is a key material needed to make cement. Because of this, it was a perfect spot to build a cement plant. Many workers and their families moved to the area. Some were skilled workers for the cement plant. Others worked in small businesses, coal mines, and gypsum quarries nearby.
